Hi, my name is Courtney Hanes. I’m 20, I am starting my senior year of college and I am student teaching in the spring. I live at home so that I can help my parents care for my two seven year old siblings. I am a country girl to the bone, and I absolutely love cows. I showed chickens, rabbits, horses and cattle in high school. I love to read and play on the computer or help teach my siblings to play video games. I am a show mentor for a few high school students in my area, which is what inspired me to pursue being an agriculture teacher.
Technology has become an integral part of today’s society and I believe that it should be utilized in the classroom. Most of the younger generations around today know more about technology than older generations, and I believe by using their tactics it will motivate students to learn more. Learning should be fun, not a chore. Letting my students use technology they are familiar with will help them succeed even more. Technology in the classroom will open up many possibilities for teachers. We already use the computer for several teaching techniques, with power point and prezis. Students can use the internet for resources rather than just text books and magazines available to them.
We all use technology in one way or the other. It is ever changing and it grows every day. It is only fitting in my opinion that we use this influence to our advantage rather than let it slip by. I’m on the computer for a few hours a day, I have a tablet, my whole family owns iphones, I drive a truck, I watch television every day, and I have an alarm system installed in my house; technology is everywhere, we all use it and our society wouldn’t be able to survive without it. Using it in the classroom will only help us and it gives our students what they want.
In this class I would like to learn how to use technology more efficiently in the classroom. I expect to learn a lot of knew things. Blogging is new to me so we are off to a good start! By the end of this class I want to be confident in my abilities to use technology with my students.
